Hotter, brighter, and more overtly radiant, Future Strata No. 2 moves through blazing fluorescent oranges, saturated pinks, acidic yellows, and flashes of blue and green. Its color feels airborne and molten at once — like heat, velocity, and light passing through a surface that still holds the memory of earlier structures beneath it. The brighter tones are especially alive in daylight, where the painting seems to brighten from inside the panel.
Like the other works in the series, this painting was made through an extended process of building up many layers over time and then sanding the surface back to reveal buried passages, edges, and interruptions. The smooth finish allows the eye to move into the work without glare, while the reinforced panel construction keeps it stable and true. Originally shown in Tingleguts at Project 4 Gallery in Washington, DC, in 2014, it returns now for the first time since storage as part of a special release from the series.
